We want to take time this summer to highlight our amazing staff at CEC! This week’s Staff Spotlight goes to Karen Jordan, SI Studio Coordinator!

The SI Studio (Supplementary Instruction Studio) is our student support center.  It is staffed from 7:55 am – 3:15 pm, including both lunches.
Students come here:
* for a quiet place to work
* to take/retake missed tests and quizzes
* to print documents for classes
* to check out a Chromebook for a few hours
* to get support with classes
* to get their homework checked for some math classes
* to check out reading books
* to get support with PPBEA (Pikes Peak Business and Education Alliance)

What is your educational background?
“BA in Mathematics with Computer Science Emphasis ~ Colorado College 1994
MA in Teaching ~ Colorado College 1996
MOS: Associate
MOS: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint”

What is your favorite class project at CEC?
“Pi Day! Students can work for minutes to months memorizing pi to 100+ decimal places. The Pi Day lesson includes songs about pi, the history of pi, piems (writing using the digits of pi to determine word length), important events on pi day, finding your birthday in pi, pi memorization, and eating pi(e) and other round things like cookies and pizza pie!”

What are your hobbies outside of school?
Tutoring Math, Pokemon Go Team Mystic, Painting Rocks/Tiles with 719 Kindness Rocks, Origami Stellated Octahedra/Icosahedra, Audiobooks, Travelling, Animals and supporting The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, Infrequent Igo/Baduk/Weichi Player.”

What does the CEC mission mean to you?
“If you want it, go get it! People go over and above to support the students here. There are amazing opportunities available for students at CEC! Your experience here is what you make it! Make it wonderful!”
