The CECFCHS Coding Club students proudly participated in the Lockheed Martin CYBERQUEST competition in Denver, securing 4th place out of 14 teams. The competition was intense, with the team holding 2nd place for a time before ultimately finishing 4th, just 75 points behind two tied teams. They scored an impressive 1,975 points, with the 2nd-place team narrowly surpassing the 3rd-place team by submitting the correct answer 50 seconds earlier.

The students’ excitement was evident throughout the event. Coaches had the opportunity to observe the teams on-screen, with the CECFCHS team positioned closest to the camera, almost allowing a glimpse of their computer screens.

The exclusive opportunity for participants to apply for summer internships at Lockheed Martin is a significant competition highlight. One senior from the team, who plans to major in computer science at CSU, was introduced to a volunteer engineer who had also graduated from CSU and completed two summer internships before securing a full-time role. Another student interested in attending Colorado School of Mines was connected with a Mines graduate who volunteered at the event.

This competition served as both a networking opportunity and a valuable career exploration experience for the students. It was a privilege to support them, making this event meaningful—possibly the last opportunity to do so at the current school.

The tour of the Lockheed Martin facility was both educational and inspiring. Students had the opportunity to ask numerous questions, and the volunteer engineers provided insightful and patient responses. Unlike the CodeQuest competition, the tour offered a different perspective, showcasing the company’s work in a more interactive and informative setting. The planning and dedication of the volunteers were truly impressive, making it an exceptional experience for everyone involved.
