Student Spotlight: CEC Parker 11th Grader, Joshua Norman, Represents USA in Beach Volleyball World Championships in Israel!

CEC Parker 11th grader, Joshua Norman, has been selected by the Amateur Athletic Union as part of the International Sport Foundation to compete in the Beach Volleyball World Championships in Israel at the end of May. Joshua and his beach volleyball partner are the only 18 Boys team – the only boys team representing the United States in this competition.

Joshua’s first experience with volleyball was beach volleyball, when he asked to train at age 10 with his sisters.  He loved the sport, and joined an indoor introductory club team. He kept up training beach volleyball and competing at an elite level every summer. Then when COVID protocols shut down local indoor volleyball clubs, Joshua created a boys group to train with a local beach volleyball coach outdoors at sand courts in Indian Hills, CO. Joshua also was invited by Beach Volleyball Olympian, Phil Dalhausser, to an elite 8 training camp during June 2020 to train with the best in his age group at Phil’s facility at Lake Nona, FL. They are friends to this day.

Josh was invited to play on the National Development Training Team for USAV Beach when he was 12 years old.  He has earned medals in beach volleyball nationals, both for USAV volleyball at age 12, playing in the 14s Open Division and also for AVP Junior Nationals the past 3 years.

He currently plays for Legend High School’s volleyball team, who qualified for state this month. Now he is headed off to play for AAU Beach USA at the International Sports Foundation World Championships in Israel. He will first compete against Serbia, Germany and New Zealand 18U boys. Good luck, Joshua!
