CEC in the News: CECCS’ Karen Jordan to receive 2022 Boettcher Foundation Teacher Recognition Award

CECCS student and 2022 Boettcher Scholarship finalist William Navarrete Moreno chose Mrs. Karen Jordan as their teacher nominee in recognition of Mrs. Jordan’s passion for the profession and dedication to their students.

The Teacher Recognition Awards Program was established by the Trustees of the Boettcher Foundation in 1992 to provide an opportunity for Boettcher Scholars to extend their gratitude to the teachers who have dedicated themselves to providing Colorado students with an outstanding education. Each 2022 Boettcher Scholarship finalist was asked to identify one teacher who impacted their lives and made significant contributions to their growth and education.

Mrs. Jordan said about William, “I love that his plans to become a doctor include William a legacy of healthcare for all as a primary care physician to indigent populations. His goal is to create a non-profit supporting low-income students.  He says that by easing the suffering of one person a day, he is planting seeds in the garden he will never get to see.”

“When our school’s charter came up for renewal, William was selected as a student ambassador and CECCS was awarded the longest renewal period, in part because of his support,” Mrs. Jordan continued. “The Pikes Peak Business and Education Alliance (PPBEA) shared that he was one of 12 students accepted to the Peak Vista Health Careers Academy program, a mix of shadowing medical professionals, attending health care related lectures, and presenting about his experience.  He will graduate early from high school with an Associate of Science in Biology from PPCC in May 2022.  For college, he is one of 10 students selected for the CU Denver BA/BS-MD Program which will support him as he continues his educational journey to a Bachelor’s in Biology with a minor in Biochemistry and a Doctorate in Medicine.”

In addition to a plaque, the recipients of the Teacher Recognition Award will receive a $500 grant, which they may use toward an educational program, professional development, or project to benefit students at our school.
