Creativity Meets Technology: CECCS Middle School Students Create Their Own Children’s Books

CEC Colorado Springs middle school students share a book they created in Canva with homeschool enrichment students.

There’s no shortage of creativity and innovation at CEC Colorado Springs! In her class, STEM teacher Robin Tenboer guided her middle school students through an exciting project that blended storytelling, design, and technology.

Using Canva to design and layout their stories, students wrote and illustrated their very own children’s books, and used AI tools to generate imaginative illustrations that matched their narratives. Once complete, they printed their books on cardstock, transforming their digital creations into real, tangible works of art.

These young authors then shared their finished books with our homeschool enrichment students, reading aloud and sparking smiles, curiosity, and a shared love for reading across age group.

A huge thank-you to Robin Tenboer for inspiring this project and showing how technology and creativity can work hand in hand to build connections and bring learning to life.
